Bank bailout costs more than entire WWII

November 28, 2008

OK, today I am angry, real angry. This government has systematically raped this country with an unlimited bailout of the banking, insurance and probably even car industries. The costs are so astounding we won’t anymore talk in numbers but in comparisons. The Troubled Assets Relief Program or TARP has now raked up damage to the tune of

…$7.36 trillion dollars. That’s more than double what was spent on WW II, if adjusted for inflation, based on our computations from a variety of estimates and sources.

The costs is furthermore, and this is my favourite, more than NASA has spent since 1958 until today. This includes all the Mercury, Gemini project, all Moon landings, multiple missions to Mars, Pluto and almost all the other planets, Hubble Space Telescope, a space station and space shuttles. With a single stroke of the pen Bernake and Paulson have managed to spend what others can barely fathom.
